Mixed Limit – The New Way To Play Mixed Poker Games
In 2009 and 2010 there were some significant changes to the world of mixed poker games. Online poker rooms started developing mixed limit variants. This basically means that they sequence of card games includes at least two of the following formats:
- Fixed limit
- Pot limit
- No limit
For many years mixed poker games were strictly played in the fixed limit format. Combining the different betting formats allowed online poker rooms to create new and challenging mixed games. This new breed of mixed game is much more difficult to master but most online poker players seem to prefer them to the traditional fixed limit only games like H.O.R.S.E and H.O.S.E.
Nowadays there are mixed poker variants that include 7, 8, 9 or even 10 individual card games. Currently, the most popular mixed card game is 8-Game. This mixed game features six fixed limit, one pot limit and one no limit card game. Texas Holdem is played in both the no limit and fixed limit format so there are technically only 7 unique poker games in the rotation.
This mixed game also features all three Stud poker games and both Omaha poker games. The most peculiar card game in 8-Game is 2-7 Triple Draw. 8-Game players can win money with a wide range of skill sets. If you are exceptional at the fixed limit games it will offset the possible losses you may have during the PL Omaha and NL Hold’em rotation.
The complexity of a mixed game is directly related to the potential for profit. The harder a game is, the more you can win. This blade has two edges though. If you are unable to hold your own in a majority of the card games you will almost always end up losing. Mixed poker variant players tend to be over-confident about their skill level for some games. A good way to find out how you really stack up against the competition is to play at the ring tables for each card game you are uncertain about. For instance, when 8-Game first came out I decided to test my Triple Draw skills at the small stakes tables. I managed to hold my own against the experienced players and I found that it was a much better way to increase my skill compared to just playing TD during its rotation in 8-Game.
